Swiftly Resolve Data Damage on your QuickBooks Company File

This issue of data damage can be easily resolved by following two steps listed below. However, before we move onto the solutions there are two important points that user needs to keep in mind:

  • Both the steps – Rebuilding and Verifying Utilities, should be performed on the same system where the original QuickBooks Company file is kept.

  • The step – Rebuild Utility will result in a Backup file which can be saved anywhere on the system, however, make sure that location of the file is safe, secured and remembered by you.

Now onto the first step of resolving the data damage issues, which is to Run Rebuilt Utility –

  • Go to the file menu of your software and select Utilities option followed by Rebuild data.

  • Once you get a prompt for Backup of the company file click on OK [It is quite possible that the system may flash a message stating ‘QuickBooks is not responding’, however as long as the cursor is moving, rebuilding process is carrying on. Wait to let it get completed.]

  • Once you receive a message stating ‘Rebuild Has Completed’, click on OK and then proceed to next set of steps.

After completion of Rebuild Utility process, carry on to the next step of verifying Utility –

  • Go to file menu again and from Utilities tab proceed to Verify Data option.

  • If you get a message stating ‘QuickBooks detected no problem with your data’ click on OK and use your company file as you see fit.

  • In case there is some issue with the data you will be prompted by Verify option to click on option either Rebuild Now or View Errors. We recommend to click on close option and proceed with steps enumerated below [If you are comfortable accessing QBWIN.log file then proceed with steps below, otherwise call for expert technical support via QuickBooks technical support number]:

  • Access QBWIN.log file – In case you are reviewing file with support from an QB technical expert then to provide access of the file to the support agent go to Tech Help option and select ‘Send log files to Intuit Support’ tab.

  • Once the file is open press on Ctrl +F together to search for ‘Begin Verify’ and try to locate it in the latest file. (Logs date order lists latest details at the bottom of the file.)

  • Look for line consisting of words – ‘LVL_ERROR’. Copy the text and paste it in QuickBooks Help section.
